Frequently Asked Questions
Our partner centres use international-brand implants — Stryker, DePuy Synthes, Zimmer Biomet and Smith & Nephew. The same implants used in the USA and UK are used in India, with the cost advantage coming from lower surgeon fees and hospital overheads rather than implant compromise.
For uncomplicated total knee replacement, most patients can fly after 10–14 days. We ensure your knee is stable, swelling is controlled, and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) prophylaxis is completed before clearance for travel. Short-haul flights of under 6 hours are generally safe at 10 days.
Yes. Our packages at Artemis Hospitals include in-hospital physiotherapy sessions during your stay. We also provide a home exercise programme and can arrange physiotherapy referrals in your home country through our network of internationally trained therapists.
You will be walking with a walker within 24–48 hours of surgery. By 6 weeks, most patients are walking without a cane. Full recovery — climbing stairs, low-impact activities — takes 3–6 months. Return to desk work is typically possible within 4–6 weeks.
Chronological age alone is rarely a contraindication. Our orthopaedic team assesses overall health, cardiac fitness, renal function and BMI. We have successfully performed joint replacement in patients up to 85 years of age. Our bariatric surgery team can work with your orthopaedic surgeon if weight optimisation is needed before replacement.
