Dr. Biswarup Purkayastha is an experienced Heart & Lung Transplant and Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgeon in India with over 11 years of surgical experience in treating complex heart, lung, and vascular conditions. He currently serves as Consultant – Heart & Lung Transplant and Vascular Surgery at Artemis Hospitals, Gurugram. Dr. Purkayastha specializes in heart and lung transplantation, coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG), aortic surgery, valve repair and replacement, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, and vascular procedures. He also has expertise in mechanical circulatory support (ECMO and ventricular assist devices), thoracic surgery, and endovascular interventions, enabling him to manage both routine and high-risk cardiothoracic cases. He completed his MBBS followed by DrNB in Cardiothoracic Surgery and further strengthened his expertise through advanced international training at Vienna General Hospital under the Toronto–Vienna Lung Transplant Academy Program. He also completed the prestigious Greenlane Fellowship in Adult Cardiothoracic Surgery and Heart-Lung Transplantation at Auckland City Hospital, New Zealand, where he gained extensive experience in advanced transplant and aortic surgery. Before joining Artemis Hospitals, Dr. Purkayastha worked with several leading healthcare institutions across India, including KIMS Hospital, Hyderabad, Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital, Mumbai, Medanta, Lucknow, B. M. Birla Heart Research Centre, Kolkata, and Narayana Hrudayalaya, building strong expertise in complex cardiothoracic and vascular procedures. Dr. Purkayastha follows an evidence-based and patient-focused approach, carefully evaluating each case to recommend the most appropriate surgical treatment. He believes in discussing every stage of treatment with patients and their families, helping them understand the procedure, expected outcomes, and recovery process.
